It is with great sadness that I have to pass on news of the death of Ian Barrett.  Ian died whilst visiting his son in the Philippines.  He took ill and died there on Friday 16th September aged 65.

Ian, as everyone knows, was larger than life and formed many lasting friendships within the hockey fraternity.  His father recognised his son’s talent and the need to join a leading club.  He joined Hounslow in 1963 as  a 17-year-old playing mainly at outside left soon making it to the first eleven.  He eventually captained the first eleven for two years in the mid 70’s.

Good news for England's teams in the Gant Eurohockey Nations Championships. Both teams have won through to the semi-finals.

England's women topped their pool with three wins and now meet the Netherlands from the other pool. The other semi-final is between Spain and Germany.

England's men were second in their pool with two wins and one closely lost game (3-4) against Netherlands. They will now meet Germany from the other pool. The other men's semi-final is between Belgium and Netherlands.

Both games can be watched by HWC members from home.
