The Women's Champions Trophy in Rosario, Argentina, from January 28 to February 5, was played at the wrong time in the midsummer heat with temperatures bordering on to 40 degrees C.

For the occasion of the Club's 40th Anniversary we produced a booklet on the main points of our first 40 years. A copy was supplied to each guest at the recent Annual Awards Luncheon.

Hockey has its own archive museum at Butts Road in Woking, Surrey.

The Museum has come about through the energy and initiative of enthusiasts: Mike Smith and David Wareham, on one hand, and Patrick Rowley and Dil Bahra, on the other, with the  objective of  preserving hockey’s rich heritage. The group was  expanded to include Katie Dodd, the former England international, and Ian Wilson, Treasurer of England Hockey.

The Higgins Group plc Youth and Junior Awards were presented at the Hockey Writers’ Club Awards function yesterday, 17 January 2012, with Joanna Leigh taking the Youth (18-and-under) Girls’ Award and Joseph Sharp the Boys’ Award.

Martha Baker took the Girls’ Junior (16-and-under) Award and James Albery the Boys’ Junior Award.

England Hockey Board President Simon Mason presented this year's Pollard and Moore Awards at the end of the Gant European Nations Cup tournament in Monchengladbach.

Marjorie Pollard Award          Helen Richardson

Chris Moore Award               Barry Middleton

The Awards were made to the best UK player in the two European events.

Both England teams were defeated in their semi-finals but won out in their bronze medal play-off matches.

As a schoolboy, I watched Norman Borrett, the first Great Britain hockey captain play three times in the 1948 London Olympics including the final at Wembley where disappointingly he did not add to the 9 goals he had scored earlier against the USA (5) and Afghanistan (4).

The University of Westminster Sports Ground, known to many as the Quentin Hogg Memorial Ground, was home for this inaugural London Cup competition, from 12-16 July 2011. Temporary stands for more than 4,000 were close to full for most of the games.

Rebecca Herbert (2004) and Maddy Hinch (2006), past winners of the Higgins Group UK Youth Awards, were dominant in England's 2-2 draw with Korea in the recent elite Women's Champions Trophy tournament in Amstelveen.  Herbert scored both England's goals whilst Hinch, making her second England appearance, gave an outstanding display in goal.
