England stars shine

Seven of England’s European gold medal winning team scored on the second day of the new England Hockey League season.

James Tindall and Matt Daly each picked up a brace as Surbiton outplayed Hampstead to win 5-2.

Tindall’s opened the scoring with a memorable shot, Daly took his new season tally to six – all from corners.

Cup holders Reading won their first ever match against promoted Exeter University 4-0 at Exeter yesterday, with Jonty Clarke and the Mantell brother’s, Simon and Richard, all scoring.

Alistair Brogdon set Bowdon on the way to a 4-2 win at Loughborough Students with an early goal. Richard Smith’s reply for Students came when his side were already 3-0 down.

The shock result in the women’s premier came at Bowdon where Hightown, the champions, were beaten 4-3 by Slough who had travelled with a depleted team.

Slough had improved their corners from the previous week, Bowdon are rebuilding.

The week-end’s top scorers were Canterbury Ladies who demolished Trojans 10-1.
