European gold medallists James Tindall and Matt Daly both
scored twice as Surbiton over-ran Hampstead to win their second
English League match of the new season 5-2 on the new pitch
at Paddington.
Tindall’s first goal, a beautifully controlled and lethal
volley, following up a Daly corner shot that rebounded to
him waist high on the circle’s edge, must be an early
contender for goal of the season.
Surbiton led 5-0, snatching three in three minutes in the
second half, but allowed Hampstead to come back with two late
corner goals.
Hat-tricks were the order of a high scoring day at East Grinstead
where the champions won 8-5 against newly promoted Brooklands.
South African Gareth Carr and coach Mark Pearn, the former
Olympian, each scored three for the usex club as did Dave
Seddon for the visitors.
Title contenders Beeston and Cannock shared two goals at Nottingham,
Jamie Parker scoring a first half corner for Beeston and newcomer
Nicholas Bondurak replying for Cannock.
Canterbury Ladies produced the performance of the day, putting
Trojans to the sword with a 10-1 victory. It was easily their
biggest ever
league win.
Four internationals scored in their tally. Mel Clewlow (2),
Natalie Seymour (3), Jenny Hall and Cathy Gilliat-Smith were
all on target.
Women’s champions Bowdon Ladies suffered a shock defeat
at home to Slough, losing 4-3.
They lost only one match last season.
