Slazengers English League -
14 March 2009:
Pat Rowley reports:
Bowdon
Hightown, already champions, have come within two matches
of completing their Slazengers English League programme with
a 100 percent record with a 5-0 away win over Trojans.
Three
of Bowdon’s goals were scored by Tina Cullen, their
player/coach who becomes the league’s top scorer with
22 goals in 16 matches.
Jane Smith, the league’s other prolific scorer, also
scored a hat-trick but it was not enough. Slough were beaten
5-4 by Olton whom they beat 6-3 in November.
With both teams showing defensive frailty again, it often
seemed a game between Olton and Smith.
Olton’s five goals were shared between Emma Rochlin,
Holly Chipman, Lucilla Wright, Emma McCabe and Naomi James.
Olton’s win kept up their hopes of the second place
in Europe next year but almost certainly ended Slough’s
chances.
Olton stay second, a point ahead of Canterbury and two better
than Leicester who both won their home games.
